Community Development
The Moon Township Community Development Department is responsible for the coordination and implementation of all land development, property improvement, and code enforcement regulations within Moon Township. These regulations help protect property values and create a safe living and working environment for all. Through the Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance, Zoning Ordinance, and Building Code regulations, the Community Development Department's goal is to create a safe and welcoming environment for Township residents and visitors to live, work, and play.
Planning and Development
The Community Development Department reviews all land development applications for compliance with the Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance and Zoning Ordinance. This review includes the coordination of plans to be considered by the Moon Township Planning Commission and the Moon Township Board of Supervisors. Both the Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance and Zoning Ordinance are written to encourage development and redevelopment that is well designed, of high quality, and well suited for the natural conditions of the site.
Zoning and Code Enforcement
The Zoning and Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for enforcing the municipal ordinances to help protect the safety and health of Moon Township residents. Code Enforcement conducts inspections of properties throughout the municipality to determine compliance with code requirements and responds to complaints of potential Zoning and Health and Safety Code violations and initiates fair and unbiased enforcement action to correct those violations and educate property owners to maintain code compliance. The Zoning Officer can help you when applying for signs and zoning hearing board applications.
Building Inspection and Permitting Building codes are important because they ensure that the structures surrounding us are safe to use and protect people from disasters due to fire, structural collapse and general deterioration. Permits allow the enforcement of state, county and township building codes and ensure that all building projects protect public health, safety and welfare.
