Basic Responsibilities
The Moon Industrial Development Authority was created in 1980 by the Moon Township Board of Supervisors. The Moon Industrial Development Authority is a local organization that provides tax-exempt financing for the construction of qualifying projects. Because the interest on loans obtained through MIDA is exempt from both federal and state income taxes, the organization is able to pass lower interest costs on to applicants. The types of projects MIDA is able to finance include industrial plants and the machinery and equipment necessary for operation, solid waste facilities and facilities owned and operated through 501 (c)(3) nonprofit corporations. All projects approved by MIDA must also be approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development. MIDA meets on an as needed basis.
