Cardboard Recycling
Cardboard Recycling
Cardboard is collected by Waste Management as part of the curbside collection program. However, occasionally residents will have more cardboard than will fit inside their collection container. To help address this need, Moon Township is partnering with the Moon Township Municipal Authority to host a cardboard recycling dumpster for Township residents as a supplement to the curbside collection.
This cardboard recycling dumpster is located just inside the gate at the Public Works Garage located at 1115 Stevenson Mill Road and can be accessed Monday through Friday 7:00am – 3:30pm (closed on weekends and holidays).
Please keep the following in mind when dropping off cardboard:
• Break down cardboard boxes and insert flattened pieces into the open slot on the dumpster.
• Do not dispose of garbage or trash in the cardboard recycling dumpster.
• Please put all boxes inside the dumpster. If the dumpster is full, don't leave boxes on the ground. Bring your cardboard back another time. Wet or piled-up boxes can leave a mess.
• The compactor is for cardboard only. NO trash. NO styrofoam. NO packing peanuts. NO packing materials.
• A camera monitors the dumpster area.
Can You Recycle Cardboard?
Not only is cardboard recyclable, but it’s also the paper product that is most recycled. About 70% of all corrugated cardboard in the United States is recovered for recycling and used to make products like paper towels, and tissues and printing and writing paper.
Recycling cardboard into new products only creates half the pollution that would be created if those products were made new. Almost no ozone-depleting chemicals are used when cardboard is recycled.
Save Water
The production process of making cardboard from wood requires a lot of water. Whereas recycled cardboard has already been through that production stage. You save approximately 7000 tons of water for every ton of cardboard you recycle.
