Moon Township Polling Locations
The Township has seen significant population growth in the recent decade. Over the last decade, the Township has noticed a disproportionate number of electors in the various election districts currently existing in the township resulting in long lines to vote in certain election districts but not in others. The current map has some districts with over 2,500 electors and other districts with less than 800 electors. In response to complaints over the apportionment of electors in the Township, the township organized a committee of electors, who in conjunction with the Allegheny County Elections Division, have reviewed the existing election districts in the township and have examined how to best address the current disproportionate apportionment of electors in the Township. As a result of the efforts of the committee and the Allegheny County Elections Division, they submitted a petition to the Allegheny Court of Common Pleas to seek the redivision of the current election districts within the Township and the creation of new districts to provide registered electors with better access to convenient polling places and to help alleviate overcrowding at polling places on Election Day.
Currently, the Township has thirteen (13) Election Districts. The Pennsylvania Election Code requires, except for good cause shown, that any election district have no more than 1,200 registered electors. Therefore, to better promote proportionality among the registered electors in the Township, the Committee petitioned the court to redivide the existing election districts in the township and create three new election districts giving the Township sixteen (16) Election Districts in total. The court has approved the revised map. Next, the Allegheny County Elections Division will be sending letters to property owners to inform them of their new district and the polling place for that district. Please review the updated map to better understand which district you are in and your polling location.
